The CEO of MapmyIndia stated that ANI Technologies, the parent company of Ola, was making “gimmick” promises to create a navigational map of India. MapmyIndia CEO Rohan Verma questioned Ola’s assertion that a startup company provided the map called Geospoc Pvt Ltd. after filing a legal notice with Ola Electric.
“We don’t see a business risk, because we don’t see a good product coming from there,” he stated, denying that Ola Maps poses any damage to his company’s operations due to its poor quality. Numerous people are expressing dissatisfaction over Ola’s redesigned taxi and electric vehicle apps, claiming that the maps are of poor quality and are causing issues for users. Although it’s common knowledge that these are merely announcements and gimmicks, the product’s quality
This comes after Ola Electric signed a licensing deal with MapmyIndia on July 23, 2021, to utilize APIs (application programming interfaces) and SDKs (software development kits). Ola was found to have violated the terms and circumstances of the license agreement. Ola stated in the notice that it “vehemently disputes the fabricated and self-serving claims made by MapmyIndia.” They are an obvious sign of the business’s frantic attempts to discredit its rivals in order to remain relevant.
According to Rohan Verma, Ola Electric licensed its SDKs and APIs, embedded them, and integrated them with their software.
He stated that creating maps is a serious endeavor that demands significant time, capital, and expertise. Globally, only a few companies have managed to sustain or succeed in this challenging field, despite many attempts. It’s unrealistic for someone to suddenly claim they have developed maps without a proven track record and credentials, especially if they have relied on another company’s map data, APIs, and SDKs for years.
He continued, saying that any well-meaning Indian would see why it shouldn’t be utilized if they visited www.openstreetmap.org. What consumers will undoubtedly find most lacking is the level of accuracy on the maps created by these competitors. Accurate map construction is difficult. People should use extreme caution when purchasing these gaudy Fly By Night products, Verma said.
