Google CEO Sundar Pichai‘s recent post illustrates that Indian parents are never fully satisfied, even when their child leads one of the world’s most valuable companies. Pichai was recently honored with an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, IIT Kharagpur. In an Instagram post, he noted that his parents had always hoped he would earn a PhD. “I think an honorary one still counts,” wrote the CEO of Google and Alphabet.
Considering that Indian parents are often seen as having very high expectations for their children’s education, the caption sparked numerous jokes about the “brown parents” stereotype.
Sundar Pichai made fun of his parents in a post that went viral on social media. They concluded by saying that even the CEO of Google finds it difficult to deal with his parents’s expectations.
The Google CEO’s tweet went viral an hour ago and has now gotten over 1.6 lakh “likes” and over 700 comments, the majority of which are congrats.
In other words, all parents are alike. His parents are not pleased that Sundar Pichai does not hold a doctorate, regardless of who he is now. Indeed, no matter what you accomplish, your parents will always want the best for you,” an Instagram user going by the name Gautam stated.
“Every Indian child and Indian parent stereotype can be related to this post’s caption,” another person commented.
“A third person made the joke, ‘You may be CEO, but you should still have that PhD.’ Brown parents be like that.”
